Last year, we were contacted by a former Australian Army combat medic who was deeply moved by the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, particularly in the Karenni area. Troubled by reports of airstrikes targeting civilian areas, including schools, and the tragic loss of innocent lives, he expressed a strong desire to contribute his expertise to support the local population.
During his time in Karenni, he documented his experiences, including providing urgent care to landmine victims and witnessing the heartbreaking reality of patients succumbing to their injuries due to the lack of timely medical treatment and proper transportation.
His firsthand experience reinforced the dire need for improved medical infrastructure, particularly the availability of reliable emergency transport. In response, we are launching a fundraising campaign to procure a 4WD utility vehicle that can serve as a makeshift ambulance, ensuring that critical patients can reach medical facilities in time. The Karenni Federation of Australia will be overseeing the logistics and procurement process to ensure that the aid reaches those in need efficiently.
